Daytona Beach Shores is a relatively small city that is virtually a spec on the map but still significant in and amongst itself. This small but amazingly powerful city was organized and incorporated in 1960 into the family of Florida communities in respect and understanding to its residents so they would have better chance for success and use for services in a smaller community rather than in Daytona Beach to its north or Wilbur-By-The-Sea to its south. In the 1970's and into the 1980's the Daytona Beach Shores Council decided to start a building program. That building program eventually added the structural advances of high rise condominiums into the city. Today the city of Daytona Beach Shores is practically overrun with condominiums. Over 80% of the residents now live in these newly-built condos on the beach that stretch the length of the city and even farther down the Atlantic Ocean. In 1998, the residents voted that the buildings be no higher than 12 stories for safety reasons and to minimize the environmental impact, it was approved in 1998. As a result, Daytona Beach Shores is now a premier spot for Florida condos for sale.
Daytona Beach Shores is basically a retirement and resort community, having no schools or manufacturing industries; it mainly houses its residents and specializes in the community relaxation and fun departments. Only being about 5.5 miles in length, a few hundred yards wide and with a population of just over 5500 people in the non-tourism seasons, this place is an easy city to fall in love with because of its relative peacefulness and tranquility being close to the beach and Halifax River.
