A new beachfront park is under construction in Daytona Beach Shores. The park will be named after Edwin Peck Sr., "Peck Park." In the article Gold shovels and Red Lobster: Construction begins at Daytona Beach Shores beachside park published online in the News Journal by Mary Helen Moore, "Edwin Peck Sr. was honored at a groundbreaking ceremony for a beachside park that will bear his name, but the 102-year-old real estate developer said the honor was all his. He stated, it’s going to be a great park, and I’m happy about the fact that when I’m gone this park will be a place of real pleasure for thousands of people forever."
The park is said to be featuring an ADA-accessible dune walkover, showers, grills, bike racks, restrooms, fitness stations and parking for a minimum of at least 100 cars. There may also be a playground installed. This will be decided later on.
It was also reported that Volusia county paid $2.95 million for the vacant oceanfront land in 2015, part of a buying spree to expand off-beach parking. It took several years for the park to be approved. Now that the project has been approved, construction has begun with the completion date on schedule.
